Sentencing of Dog Owners in Fatal Attack: A Community’s Call for Justice

 

In a case that has shocked the San Antonio community, two dog owners have been sentenced following the tragic death of Ramon Naha, who was killed by their dogs in a horrifying attack. The sentencing, delivered in a court filled with emotional testimonies, underscores the consequences of criminal negligence and raises pressing questions about responsible dog ownership.

The Incident

The court proceedings revealed a painful narrative: on July 19, 2022, Naha was attacked by two dogs belonging to defendants Mr. Moreno and Ms. Schneider. The attack was described as preventable, with evidence suggesting the owners failed to take necessary precautions to secure their pets. The judge noted the case was not about an intentional act but rather about negligence that led to a senseless loss of life.

Ramon Naha’s widow, Wanita G. Naha, delivered a powerful impact statement during the hearing, recounting the profound grief and physical hardships she has endured since losing her husband. Her emotional testimony highlighted the long-term psychological trauma and dependency on her family for support, a stark reminder of the far-reaching effects of the defendants' negligence.

After reviewing evidence and testimonies, the court sentenced Moreno to 18 years and Schneider to 15 years in confinement within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Each defendant was also fined $5,000 and prohibited from owning dogs in the future.
